UK MP LETTER TEMPLATE
This is a template letter you can send to your local MP. The more personal and specific you can make it, the more likely it is to have an impact - so feel free to add your own experiences or thoughts about NDA misuse.
REMEMBER: MPs are recognised as a ‘prescribed person’, which means you can legally share details of your own NDA with them, if you choose to.
Dear [Name of MP],
I am writing to you as one of your constituents to raise my concern about the Employment Rights Bill, and specifically Clause 22A, which will prevent non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) being used to silence workers who have experienced or witnessed harassment or discrimination at work.
This amendment is a vital and long-overdue step forward. Too many people, particularly women, disabled people, and other marginalised groups, have been pressured into silence through NDAs. This practice not only harms victims but also allows toxic workplace cultures to persist.
Following the recent Cabinet reshuffle, there is a real risk that this amendment could be watered down as new Ministers take office. I am urging you to help protect the strength and clarity of these reforms. Workers must not be left vulnerable to the same silencing tactics that have been used for decades.
In particular, I am asking you to raise questions and support strong protections that ensure:
Confidentiality can only be included at the request of the victim, never imposed by the employer.
Mandatory, independent legal advice is always provided.
Any confidentiality is time-limited or includes a clear opt-out.
A clear list of “safe” people a victim can always speak to — including doctors, regulators, lawyers, and a trusted family member or friend.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and for all that you do for our community. I hope you’ll keep a close watch on this when the Bill returns to the Commons and make sure that the government truly serve those they’re setting out to protect.
Yours sincerely,
