Story 122

I took out a grievance for bullying and it was (partially) upheld- thanks to one fair and honest governor and amazing colleagues that were my witnesses. I was advised to take the settlement as I was told the court would not look favourably on the case if I’d refused the offer. I had lots of evidence of corruption and lies from the head teacher and other governors. The head got to keep the job and was protected by them. I felt I had no choice but to accept, as my career was at stake and it had already dragged on for over a year. The head was making up lies and it was getting very nasty. I have been teaching for 25 years. I didn’t have long to sign it- I felt pressure to get the whole thing over and done with, so I could protect my career and try to move on with my life. It was one of the most difficult and unfair things I have had the misfortune to experience. I stayed as strong as I could- reading up on legalities so I could stay one step ahead of the game that was being played. It was really hard and very upsetting as I have always had good results and positive feedback. I was so shocked by the level of corruption at the core. I am finally moving on from this which is why I am sharing this story- as I truly hope something can be done about this common problem. I worry for teachers currently going through it. It is hell.
