Story 123
I am a older female who has worked as a Parish Secretary in my Catholic Church for 20 years. I also did various voluntary roles in my Parish for over 35 years.
In the Spring of 2024 I needed my Parish Priest to sign a letter. I found him in the kitchen watching inappropriate material on his phone. It was a video of a very heavily pregnant women in very little underwear, moving suggestively and displaying herself to viewer. I was shocked, offended and humiliated. What was a Catholic Priest doing watching such material in front of me. A few weeks later I found evidence that the Priest subscribed to a site called preglova99. I complained to my Bishop. I subsequently found evidence that he told the Diocese Safeguarding Officer that I or my husband could have subscribed the Priest to the site without his knowledge and that the Safeguarding officer should not jump to any conclusion based on evidence provided by me or my husband. The Priest denied everything, saying that he did not know how the site was on his phone, had never subscribed to it and had never watched it. I was signed off work with stress and anxiety and told my employment would be terminated if I did not return within 24 weeks. With the help of ACAS I received a approx £11,000 settlement but had to sign an NDA. I am not allowed to tell anyone why I no longer work, why I no longer volunteer. The NDA does not have any time limit on it. Only 6 weeks after I signed the NDA the Diocese Archbishop issued a Pastoral letter to be read out in all parishes at all Masses.. it included phrases saying " no one should be silenced, overlooked or left out". I was silenced. It also said "discipleship means speaking out against wrongdoing" I did anf lost my job and have been silenced. Yet again the Archbishops and Bishopd of the Catholic Church are determined to cover up sexual harassment and other wrongdoings.
